The short version
For most customers, every email goes to the email on their billing address, and copies go to that address’scc_email list.
CCs always come from the billing address’s
cc_email, a comma-separated list. The To address is never repeated in CC.
Which billing address
For invoices and reminders, the billing address is the group’s billing address when the customer is in a customer group that has one. Otherwise it’s the customer’s preferred billing address, and if there’s none, the address on the invoice. Statements always use the customer’s own preferred billing address, even in a group. Emails use that address as it is when the email is sent. So if you change a customer’s billing email, reminders for invoices you’ve already issued go to the new address, even though the address printed on those invoices stays the same. To set a customer’s billing contact through the API:-
Add or update the address with
emailandcc_email, using Add customer address or Update customer address: -
Make it the customer’s preferred billing address with Set address as default billing, using the
idfrom the response.
Email delivery on Enterprise
On Enterprise, you can send each kind of email to a different person, so invoices go to the buyer and reminders go to accounts payable. Set these in the Streamlined app, on a customer or on a customer group:
A group’s delivery addresses apply to every member and take priority over a member’s own. If the field for an email is blank, Streamlined uses the customer’s other delivery addresses and then the billing address’s email. CCs still come from the billing address.
Issue an invoice without emailing it
To issue an invoice and send it yourself, pass"send_email": false to Create invoice from order. The invoice is issued with its payment_url, and the invoice email isn’t sent.
